Test Proctoring

The Woodbridge Public Library can proctor tests from institutions including distance learning centers, colleges and universities, and certifying agencies. Librarians act as proctors and will verify identification and ensure that the time limit for taking the test is adhered to, that no unauthorized sources are used, and that the completed test is returned in the manner specified.

PROCTORING AVAILABILITY

Test proctoring is available at the Main library and each of the branches. Proctoring services are limited to Woodbridge Township residents only and are free.

Tests will only be proctored during regular library hours, Monday through Friday. The earliest a test should begin is an hour after the library’s opening, and all tests should be completed an hour before closing. Proctoring is not available on Saturday or Sunday.

Tests should be scheduled at least three (3) weeks in advance. Cancellations or changes should be made with at least 48 hours’ notice. Duration of test cannot exceed two consecutive hours, unless an exception has been approved by the Proctor prior to scheduling.

REQUESTING A PROCTOR

To request a proctor, please use our online appointment system to request a date and time for your exam. Choose your location where you'd like to be proctored and then make sure you choose "Test Proctoring" from the appointment types. Fill out the form in full.

We will review your request and get back to you to confirm your information and request any additional details or to arrange a different time if your initial request cannot be honored.

While submitting your request, please note the following:

Library computers do not have camera capabilities sometimes required by testing institutions for monitoring. If your test requires a camera, you will need to use your own laptop.

Similarly, test-takers must be aware that some programs will not run on library computers. If this occurs, library staff cannot change the settings on the computer.

Paper tests must be mailed to the library at least a week ahead of the scheduled test date (the library will not print out tests that are faxed or emailed unless the student agrees to pay for printing).

If possible, instructors or test taker are encouraged to send a website link to the proctor beforehand for testing.

Test proctoring does not take place in a private room. Staff make every effort to abide by proctor guidelines but cannot provide continual visual one-on-one monitoring of test takers during the exam.

The Woodbridge Public Library reserves the right to cancel or change the date of any proctored test due to unforeseen circumstances such as inclement weather, computer or connectivity malfunctions, or other emergencies.

Student Patrons are responsible for:

  • Any and all related fees and materials required for test completion and submission.
  • Arranging for and confirming receipt of any and all required materials at least one (1) week prior to the arranged testing date.
  • Verifying that the testing institution accepts WPL’s proctoring guidelines.
  • Supplying any and all supplementary materials need for testing (calculator, pens, pencils, etc.)

WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR TEST DATE

  1. Arrive at designated library location at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled testing appointment time.
  2. Review and sign library proctoring agreement supplied by Librarian.
  3. At the start of the exam, test-takers will be asked to verify their identity with a form of photo ID. Students who arrive with large purses, backpacks and briefcases may be asked to leave them at the reference desk.
  4. Cell phones will not be permitted unless specifically noted in the instructions.
  5. The Library will make every attempt to assure the safety of personal items but assumes no liability.

AFTER YOUR TEST

The Woodbridge Public Library will return the test materials to the testing institution via U.S. mail, email or fax.

  • If U.S. mail is required, then the school/institution will provide a return envelope with postage and address. The test taker is responsible for paying any postage and supplying any mailing materials not provided by the school/institution.
  • The library cannot assume responsibility for completed exams not successfully received by the testing institution.
