Mayor McCormac, Atlantic Realty Development Corporation and New Jersey Transit Announce Grand Opening of Station Village at Avenel and Renovated NJT Avenel Commuter Station
Woodbridge, NJ - Mayor John E. McCormac, the Woodbridge Township Redevelopment Agency, representatives from Atlantic Realty Development Corporation and New Jersey Transit today celebrated the grand opening of Station Village at Avenel and the newly renovated NJT Commuter Train Station located in the Avenel neighborhood of Woodbridge Township.
“Today’s grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony represents the start of a new era for Avenel that has transformed the vacant General Dynamics site into a vibrant new community,” said Mayor McCormac. “Station Village at Avenel and the future Avenel Arts Center will enhance all of Avenel and will serve to create a sense of place. More importantly, the project has already increased property values for every home and property owner in Avenel.”
Station Village at Avenel – along with the Avenel Arts Center complex slated to begin construction in December – stand on the long-abandoned 27-acre General Dynamics industrial complex in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township. Station Village at Avenel and the Avenel Arts Center, in concert with the NJT North Jersey Coastline commuter train station serving Avenel, represents a $50 million transit-related development project that will create 500 luxury apartments and town homes, 25,000 square feet of arts-themed retail space, and a 10,000 square-foot performing arts center with artist studios, galleries, rehearsal and performance space, and themed restaurants and hospitality facilities. The Avenel Arts Village and Station Loft at Avenel include streetscape improvements, lighting, sidewalks, parks and green space.
John Leone, Senior Director, New Jersey Transit Office of Government Relations, reported that New Jersey Transit supports Station Village at Avenel and the Avenel Arts Center project through the renovation of the NJT North Jersey Coastline commuter train station and will conduct a periodic review of the need for additional transit stops at the Avenel station as occupancy increases at Station Village.
Joining Mayor McCormac to announce the Grand Opening of Station Village at Avenel and the NJT North Jersey Coastline commuter train station were: David Halpern, CEO, Atlantic Realty Development Corporation; Alan Schall, Project Developer, Atlantic Realty Development Corporation; John Leone, Senior Director, New Jersey Transit Office of Government Relations; Tom Clark, New Jersey Transit Office of Government Relations; Caroline Ehrlich, Director, Woodbridge Redevelopment Agency; Councilman Cory Spillar (Third Ward/Avenel); Marta Lefsky, Director, Department of Planning & Development; Hank Haidacher, Chairman, Redevelopment Agency and Avenel residents.
