[Woodbridge]    Mayor John E. McCormac today announced the Grand Opening of Red Oak Manor – the Township’s newest Senior Housing Community located adjacent to the Sycamore Senior Center in the Sewaren section of the Township.

Joining Mayor McCormac to welcome 60 new residents to the opening of Red Oak Manor were Caroline Ehrlich, Executive Director, Woodbridge Redevelopment Agency - Donna Brightman, Executive Director, Woodbridge Housing Authority - Councilman Gregg Ficarra, Chairman of the Woodbridge Housing Authority - Marta Lefsky, Director, Woodbridge Department of Planning & Development - Municipal Council members Brian Small, Nancy Drumm and Debbie Meehan and Robert Paulus, President, Wick Companies, LLC the developer and builder of Red Oak Manor.  Additionally, the Commissioners and staff of the Woodbridge Housing Authority attended the celebration.

“The Grand Opening of the incredibly well-appointed Red Oak Residential Community stands as an incredible day for the residents of the former Stern Towers as they left the oldest housing complex in town to the newest residential community in Woodbridge,” said Mayor John E. McCormac.  “Red Oak Manor represents yet another step in our efforts to replace older residential communities with new, modern facilities.  The demand for affordable housing for seniors is tremendous and we keep looking for locations where more can be built.  With the Sycamore Senior Center right next door, and with our senior bussing program up and running, the Red Oak complex will be an amazing place for our seniors to live.”

According to Mayor McCormac, Red Oak Manor replaced the 55 year-old Stern Towers – a Woodbridge Housing Authority building which opened in downtown Woodbridge in 1964.  The Red Oak Manor residential community offers 60 new, well-appointed fully accessible and adaptable apartments specially designed for senior living with all of the apartments featuring spacious layouts, a full kitchen appliance package, HVAC systems, ceramic tile and wall-to-wall carpeting.  Red Oak Manor offers residents and visitors ample parking, community space and community social services.  It is important to note that no taxpayer funds were used to construct Red Oak manor - the entire project was funded through a combination of equity from the Federal Housing and Urban Development RAD program, transferred reserves from the Woodbridge Housing Authority and private investment.
